Google has recently pushed another update to its algorithm which has changed the way local search results appear on Google.
This update has an impact on both Google Maps search results as well as Web search results. As per Google, this update is more towards the local search engine ranking algorithm rather than an anti spam measure.
But this update has eventually impacted a lot of search results.

As per Search Engine Land: “This new local search algorithm ties deeper into their web search capabilities, including the hundreds of ranking signals they use in web search along with search features such as Knowledge Graph, spelling correction, synonyms and more.”
This update has boosted the Yelp and local directories listings as well. Now local directories are getting a better visibility in local search results.Yelp, TripAdvisor, Zagat, UrbanSpoon, OpenTable are some of the beneficiaries of this update.

1. Create your Google + page if you have not created yet.
2. Complete the Google + profile to 100% by adding all relevant details.
3. Get your profile up and running on Yelp and other relevant local directories.
